Founded by the Favilla family in New York in 1890 with American-made models having the Favilla family crest on the headstock. This ultra rare, high-end archtop is one of the last built by Favilla with the assistance of John D'Angelico, due to the unfortunate illness of Favilla. John actually sold Favilla flat-top guitars in his shop. This particular model features a 17" lower bout with gorgeous flame figuring & a perfectly bookmatched back. Formerly owned by Hal Columbo who was the guitarist on the Mike Douglas Show when it was in Philadelphia. Spectacular tone with a brilliant, powerful voice that really packs a punch!
Cosmetic Condition: Used, but not abused, with typical play wear - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches, weather checking & some finish wear on the back of the neck. There are two tiny filled holes on the bass-side of the neck from a previous floating pickup. The pickguard was removed because it's in the very beginning stages of "gassing out", but is included with the guitar. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with a cool, true vintage vibe & beautiful patina.
Neck: Semi-chunky flame maple neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl art deco block inlays. Small frets have been dressed & show no wear. They are a bit thinner on the treble side, but still have action in them. Bound headstock with mother of pearl art deco inlays. Grover Sta-Tite tuners work perfectly. There were previous tuners on the guitar at one point, but the Grovers were probably the originals. 1 3/4" nut width; 25 1/2" scale length.
Body: Solid spruce top with 7-ply binding & dual F-holes with 4-ply binding. Favilla-engraged tailpiece with floating rosewood bridge. Large tortoise pickguard with 3-ply binding included, but not currently mounted. Solid flame maple sides & back with 3-ply binding. Arched top & back with 17" lower bout. Sunburst finish & no electronics. The guitar weighs 6 lbs 4.1 oz.
Case: Original Lifton hardshell case included. There's a plaque on the outside of the case with Hal Columbo's name & address.
