Description
You are looking at a 1916 Washburn parlor guitar in excellent playable condition. Solid Brazilian rosewood back and sides and solid spruce top. Fingerboard is ebony and saddle is bone. Tone is indescribably luscious. Perfectly balanced, well-defined bass, mid and treble. Lots of bass and volume for a body this size. When I bought it the guitar it had no strings, nut, or saddle and was missing one of the frets. I called a luthier in Northside, (Cincinnati) Ohio to try to figure out what it was. He said it would be impossible to I.D. over the phone and to just bring it in. When I walked in the door with it he was behind the counter 15 ft away and said, “That’s a mid to late teens Washburn.” So, as far as I know, that’s what it is. There aren’t any markings or labels on the guitar that I can see, but to be honest I haven’t really searched inside with a light.
The guitar had several cracks, which were repaired using cleats on the inside. He also made an ebony nut and installed a bone saddle. He did a neck reset, replaced the one missing fret and installed a set of Silk and Steel strings.
Guitar sounds great, plays great and is a real head-turner if you love old guitars. The only complaint I have about the work done is that when he did the fret leveling he didn't crown the frets, so they’re a little sharp if you try to slide a bar chord up the neck. Other than that, this is just a fabulous old guitar. I will pack it meticulously with plenty of padding and insure for the purchase price.
