GREAT CONDITIOIN CIVIL WAR ERA CAP BOX. MARKED GAYLORD, CHICAPEE.MASS. ON INNER FLAP
OVERALL SIZE IS ABOUT 3 1/2" WIDE AND 3" TALL WHEN CLOSED
all stitching is intact, but one belt loop has crack part way through, still solid but 50% through strap.
OUTER COVER HAS SOME KNIFE MARKS ON FLAP, looks to be soldier cut, very shallow in shape of ?
two horizontal cuts, two vertical cuts through horizontals (tic tac toe lines) and an X through upper right intersection of lines?
lines are shallow and do not affect integrity of flap.
stud is solidly
attached, and
strap does fit to
stud
as intended, not enlarged or cracking.
MOST OF THIS ITEM HAS LEATHER CRAZING ON SURFACE FINISH, BUT NO FLAKING SEEN.
THE LEATHER HAS NOT BEEN TREATED RECENTLY
(It does have a shine of being perhaps TREATED more than ?50 years ago?)
FLAPS ARE FLEXABLE ENOUGH TO OPEN AND RETURNS TO ITS CLOSED POSITION. NO STRESSING OF LEATHER SEEN DURING OPEN AND CLOSED.
