    Description

Very nice looking US M-1839 Cartridge Box Plate from the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia! This is the standard plate that was affixed to the outer flap of most  infantry cartridge boxes during the Civil War, and functioned as both an ornamental accoutrement, as well as a weight to help keep the flap closed. This one bears a very old piece of white fabric tape, with "Spotsylvania 10-16-55" written in blue ink. Many of these so-called "digger tags" that you find on relics are bogus, but this one you can tell has been on there for a very long time.
A great piece of history that you know bore witness to one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War!
The sale is for one cartridge box plate. We used multiple pictures in both natural and artificial light to help illustrate condition and appearance.
The plate remains in good excavated condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. Brass front shows patina, oxidation, surface wear, with numerous dents. Please see the pictures for more detail.
Guaranteed 100% authentic in every respect for life. Be sure to see our other listings for more historical antiques and militaria. Be sure to follow our store as new inventory is added daily.
