Description
Very nice French violin made for Paul Beuscher, Paris, in 1917, by Laberte/Humbert (Mirecourt, France). In great playing condition (with a different chin rest than the one shown). There is no doubt that the label is correct; the violin compares perfectly with other Beuscher violins. It has a highly flamed book matched back typical of Belgian style of that era, as well as a highly flamed neck and sides, with a fine grained spruce top, showing that it was a top of the line violin. The violin is perfectly arched and reaches a higher than usual arch for a Mirecourt violin. Length of back is 14 3/16 inches.
The pattern is not named but looks to be a Stradivarius type. It has a fairly dark sound that still has a cheerful sweetness (but this is my subjective opinion as a violinist).
The violin had significant repair work, done well (see pics), and there is a repair label (in pic). There was a long crack in the back to the right of the button which is properly repaired but visible. A pin was inserted through the neck block into the neck to assure that the neck is very stable. (see pic) Any other cracks in the pictures are properly repaired, except the small wing crack.
This violin's provenance is Paris, bought by me there.
