Here is a nice antique Joel B Swett Violin for your buying consideration.

A nice older violin here.
This violin has a label in it that says "Joel B Swett, Binghampton NY" on two labels that are inside the violin body.  Swett was a Civil War veteran and a publisher, besides being known for his musical instruments.
This fine violin is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a fine luthier shop or high end auction house.
We have been selling fine items out of our home for over 35 years.  We are therefore better positioned to control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the luthier shops and higher end auction houses pass on to their clients

The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this violin.  The violin has a two piece belly and one piece back.  Exceptional fine graining to the wood on the belly.  Beautiful tiger maple striping on the back of the violin.  Nice reddish brown stain on the entire violin.   Some finish loss, and scratching to the wood from use.  Crackling to the the finish.  Chin rest is in place that has "Becker's Model Chinrest" embossed on it.
Two small hairlines on either side of where the missing saddle is on the belly of the violin that will need repair attention, see pics.  4 of the 8 beaks have chips to the ends.  The top is coming undone from the side of the violin on the left side of the neck.  The top is coming unglued from the side on the right bottom of the violin body.  We see no hairlines on the back of the violin body.
A tack in the belly down by the saddle.  A .25" hairline up by the top of the scroll on one side, doe not carry thru.
Nice inlaid purfling (all intact on both sides), f hole, and scroll work.
The corner blocks are in place.  The beaks look good, except for the chipping noted.
The fingerboard has no ridging that would impede string play.
The soundboard and back are tightly glued to the sides other than the two spots noted already, no other separations to report.
The sound post is not up inside the violin body.  The nut is rolling around inside the violin body, not the sound post.  There is no sound post.  Nice two piece back on this fiddle and we see no cracks or repairs on it to report.  The back's finish has a translucent look to it.  There is no nut, chin rest, bridge, strings or tailpiece that come with this violin.
2 nice matching tuning pegs.  The other two are missing.  They appear to be made of ebony.
The violin is 23.25" long, by 8-3/16g" across at the lower bout, and 6-5/8" across at the upper bout.  The violin body is 14.25" long.
This violin does not come with a violin case or violin bow.
This musical instrument is not represented to be in playing condition.  There will need to be refurbishing done to make this instrument playable again.
