Imperial Valley Guitars made up this wacky version of their Extra Deep Weissenborn a couple of years ago and has apparently been getting requests for it every since, so they made up another handfull for this year.
The essential feature of the Double O is a full double octave 24 fret fingerboard, which I can tell you from personal playing experience is one of those things you never thought you needed, but once you have it you never want to go back.
In order to use a fingerboard that long, Imperial had to move the soundhole back, resulting in the Django-esque oval soundhole along with a couple of Dobro-esque F holes on the upper bouts.

added the “rope” binding coveted by Weissenborn fanatics to the top, back, fingerboard and headstock of this beautiful instrument and added excellent high ratio gold and ebony "violin" tuners. There is a Rosewood fingerboard, a one piece r

mustache bridge with bone saddle and nut. The body, neck and figured solid Hawaiian Koa top are finished in gloss lacquer.
Imperial

s signature Extra Deep body is fully 5 inches deep at the back end, tapering to 3 1/
2 inches up near the headstock. The body is 15 1/2 inches wide in the hips and the scale length is 24 3/4", like an original Weissenborn or an early Rickenbacker.

The Double O uses the Fishman under saddle pickup with their Presys+ preamp system. This system features 4 bands of EQ as well as a notch filter for feedback busting and a phase switch, another tonal variable that is particularily useful for adding some extra fullness at low volumes. The + part of Presys+ is the built-in tuner, always handy in any case, but especially if you're going to be changing tunings in the middle of a set.
As with Imperial's other limited editions, there are no options. The Royal Hawaiian Double O comes with everything they've got, including the Fishman Presys+ pickup system and a custom fit extra deep hard shell case.
