    Description

    Ames Anciennes
    A rare and interesting french 18th century violin made circa 1750.
    Rare french 18th century violin made circa 1750. The top is made of two parts of spruce and shows irregular grain lines. The back is made of two parts of finely flamed maple, the curl ascending from the center joint. The ribs and head are of the same wood. The varnish is of a deep chocolate brown color on a golden ground.
    The violin is in a restored condition, with several repairs on the top and a cheek doubling at a peg. The angle of the fingerboard has been corrected with a maple saddle .
    On the inside back can be found an apocryphal label of Bergonzi. The bridge, made by the french master Jean Bauer in Angers, is fire branded "Jean Bauer, Maître luthier".
    The sound is extremely mature, warm and clear, with a good power and projection.
