VIRGINIA VOLUNTEER
I
n very good condition, this identified Civil War artifact is an original, twill-canvas cloth haversack typically carried by Confederate soldiers while they were in the field.  This haversack was carried by a young (23) tall (5' 11”), fair complected, Blue eyed, dark haired soldier from
Chamblissburg VA Named
Robert A.
Bradley a farmer who enlisted
On
7/23/1861 and was mustered into "K" Co. of the 58
th
VA Infantry.
He subsequently served with the 58TH throughout various
campaigns until he was severely wounded in May of 63 at Fredericksburg. Then returned
and hospitalized again in May of 64. The Army of Northern Virginia as you may know was
involved in many conflicts from the Seven Days' Battles to
Chancellorsville
, the Battle of
Gettysburg
and later was active in the
Bristoe
,
Mine Run
, and
The Wilderness
campaigns,
the battle at Cold Harbor
and
the Shenandoah Valley operations. The 58th and Robert
Bradley ended the war at Appomattox Court House
April 9, 1865. This magnificent piece of
our History will make for a valuable and envious
display for an experienced or novice
collector of American Civil War or Military artifacts.
