    Scarce & Very Choice
    January 14, 1779 "Twenty Dollars" Continental Colonial Currency Note.
    Very conservatively graded & certified by PCGS BANKNOTE as AU53, with the look of a slightly higher grade.
    Superb eye-appeal with no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes.
    Distinctive red & black printed front, with watermarked paper that reads "
    UNITED STATES
    " on two lines when held upto a light source (see photo).
    Bold 5-digit serial number 40305 in dark red ink, along with the equally bold signatures of Paul Cox (in dark brown ink) and Nathaniel Donnell (in bright red ink)

    Lieutenant Colonel Paul Cox was one of the Commanding Officers of the 2nd Battalion of the Philadelphia City Revolutionary War Militia in 1777 during the American Revolutionary War.
    Nathaniel Donnell
    (1751-1821),
    Major Nathaniel Donnell was first a 2nd Lieutenant, then promoted to 1st Lieutenant in Roman's Independent Company, Pennsylvania Artillery in 1776. Later the same year, he became Captain of Lieutenant Colonel Ebenezer Steven's Battalion of Artillery. Steven's Battalion was eventually absorbed by the 3rd Continental Artillery in witch Donnell was promoted to Major. He served until 1783, and died of palsy in 1821.
    This is an authentic & historical item that was printed and issued in 1779 during the midst of the Revolutionary War (1775-83), just about 3 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
