    Description

For your consideration is this wonder violin purchased from Italy. Made in the tradition of the old masters this violin is a modern Italian masterpiece. It features the gorgeous and romantic appearance of the modern Italian violin school that was developing in the beginning of the 20th century that is known for excellence in tone and projection. It features a deep and natural reddish varnish that glows with a golden undertone. It was extremely well made and has the tonal quality of a professional instrument.
The physical characteristics of the instrument lend it to be of the Italian style, but there is little way to determine the exact maker of old instruments, though certain features do suggest it as such. The back of the violin is a high quality and beautifully flamed maple which is carried through the ribs and the scroll of the violin. The front plate of the instrument is a quality spruce that does feature a so called "bear claw" that was a popular feature of many of the modern Italian school. These woods are said to improve the quality and tone of the instruments that they are featured in.
The instrument is of a very fine and developed tone that is suitable for all playing in the current classical repertoire. It handles extremely well and projects very well. The tone is suitable for a orchestral or soloist. It is sweet and powerful, with open and graceful overtones that are noticeable to experienced players. This was my personal instrument for many years and I am parting with it now as I am not able to play as much and as well as I was once able to, and this instrument deserves to be heard.
The violin does feature the label of Armando Piccagliani, who was one of the few masters working in Italy in the early part of the 20th century to rebuild the Italian school of violin making. His instruments are prized for their many fine qualities and tone. Many of his violins of the related period feature the wonderful deep red color of this instrument and there are many similarities that set this violin apart from a copy or any regular instrument. Undoubtedly this instrument has undergone a fairly rough restoration in the past, and I feel it is my duty to inform the buyer of this, as it does feature many good qualities in its construction but it wouldn't be an untouched piece. Instruments by this maker are sold for well into the 5 figure range and so this price is reflection of the overall original condition. More information can be found here https://tarisio.com/cozio-archive/browse-the-archive/makers/maker/?Maker_ID=540, in the archives of Tarisio a well known and credited auction house of fine and antique instruments. If you have any further questions I will do my best to answer. Also note that since the last professional pictures of the violin that the tailpiece has been changed to a lighter French style tail piece which aids in sound production.
    UPDATE AUG 11TH
As part of wanting in ensure that the violin was something that could be thought of more legitimately, I decided early in August to have the violin briefly evaluated online by Brompton's, a well known rare instrument dealer, who expressed their interest in having the violin sent to them so they could confirm the authenticity in person. As of yet I have not done so but their opinion was that the violin could be listed in their catalogue between
    £6,000-8,000.
Approximately 7,000 to 9,000 usd. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to send me a message. Sale will be final.
