Antique Violin Abert Aug Heberlein Jr Fine Flamed 1 Piece Back Needs Repair.
Here is a very fine looking antique violin with a label that reads copy of Joseph Guarnerius, Del Gesu 1741, Albert Aug Heberlein jr., Geigenbanmeister, Markneukirchen I Sa. From the examples I could find online the label looks to be correct for the workmanship to be a Albert Heberlein instrument. Violin has very good flamed maple back and side, unfortunately the top has some serious cracks that need repair. This isn’t altogether surprising as I have found in the past very fine concert grade instruments often times have very thin and brittle tops that crack easily. Back of instrument measures approx 14 1/3” and bouts are approx 8 3/8” and 6 3/4”. Outside of the top cracks the instrument looks to be in good shape for its age. Comes in what looks like the original period case which is missing the center latch but would work fine for shipping. Neat piece fresh out of a nice quality old estate.
