A nice older violin here.
This violin has a label in it that says "Nicolaus Amatus Fecit in Cremona 1630".  Older paper label.
This is not an original Amati violin, but in the Amati style.  The violin was probably made in Germany, not Italy.
We would guess that this violin dates to the mid to latter 1800s period.
This fine violin and bow are being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a fine luthier shop or high end auction house.
We have been selling fine items out of our home for over 35 years.  We are therefore better positioned to control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the luthier shops and higher end auction houses pass on to their clients

We have had this violin and bow in our collection for 50 plus years.  Now time for someone else to enjoy them.
The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this violin.  The violin has a one piece belly and two piece back.  Exceptional fine graining to the wood on the belly.  Beautiful tiger maple striping on the back of the violin.  Nice reddish brown stain on the of the entire violin.   Some very minor finish loss from use.  We see no hairlines or repairs on the belly or back of the violin body.
Nice inlaid purfling (all intact on both sides), f hole, and scroll work.
One of the points on the scroll at top of violin is missing, see pic #s 2, 4 and 10 to view.
The corner blocks are in place.  The beaks look good.  The fingerboard has no ridging that would impede string play.  The soundboard and back are tightly glued to the sides, no separations to report.
The sound post is up inside the violin body.  No guarantee it will be after shipping.  Nice two piece back on this fiddle and we see no cracks or repairs on it to report.  The back's finish has a translucent look to it.  The four strings are in place would expect with age it is time to have to replace them.  The strings may be removed to more safely ship the violin to you.  The chin rest, bridge and tailpiece are in place now.  Has an Aubert E Mirecourt bridge on the violin.
4 nice matching tuning pegs.  Appear to be made of ebony.
The violin comes with a bow that has a bone adjusting screw knob.   The knob has an ebony end in it.  Round shafted bow.
Exceptionally small  cateyes on this bow.  In place on both sides.  Appear to be made of a metal, like brass, not your normal mother of pearl.
No maker's mark or country of origination noted on the bow.  Does have the roman numerals for 30 etched into shaft which was used to match up the shaft with the appropriate sized frog.  Mother of pearl in place on bottom of frog, the back of the frog is exposed ebony.  There is old horse hair on the bow that will need replacing.  The bow is 28-5/16" long.
The violin is 23-1/8" long, by 8-1/8" across at the lower bout and 6.5" across at the upper bout.  The violin body is 14-1/8" long.
Comes with a violin case.  The latches work, old purplish interior.
This musical instrument is most likely, but not represented to be in playing condition.  There may need to be refurbishing done to make this instrument playable again.
