Description
Please note the spelling of Jofeph is also referred to Joseph. The reason for this different spelling is it reflects the actual label on the inside of this violin. Details are as follows:Antique German Violin Jofeph (label spelling) Guarnerius Del Gesu Copy 1741 & German Bow. Condition is Excellent (Violin) Bow is in Good condition.
This violin is in excellent condition. This was a gift to my mother-in-law Janis from her Uncle Les who was an antiquities dealer. She received this as a gift back in 1959. It came from a man who played in an orchestra down in Florida who had had the violin for some time.
Per the label inside this violin - This is a Jofeph Guarnerius del Gesu fecit Cremonae anno 1741 copy. There is a trademark “R.G.S.” The trade mark stands for Reinhold Geisel Sohne. They were the manufacturer of this bohemian violin. The tailpiece is not original to the violin but was replaced. This has some sort of shell inlay. I was also told this is German made as well.
The backside of the violin is a beautiful flamed maple. It is a 4/4 full size.
The German Bow comes with this violin and is a pernambuco stick with silver winding. I do not know any more about this bow but this also was given to my mother-in-law back in 1960 after her original bow was stolen.
The case is old and shows extensive wear on the outside. It still latches well. It is lined on the inside and has two areas to hold a bow, and two areas to hold strings, rosin and such.
This violin was serviced back in 1997 and was also appraised back then. I am including a copy of the service record and appraisal for this listing. The company that did the appraisal is still in business today. My mother-in-law has barely played this violin since getting married in 1963. Otherwise this beauty has been sitting in a closet for so many years.
Violin will be insured for shipping purposes.
