Recently released from a Dallas estate. We are not specialists in antique musical instruments. We are listing this beautiful violin as accurately as we can. Please review pictures and feel free to ask any questions.
The interior is labelled:
"Andreas Guarnerius fecit Cremone sub titulo Sanctae Teresiae 1677".
Andrea Guarneri (Cremona, Italy, 1626-98), founder of the family, was a fellow apprentice of Stradivari in the workshop of Nicolo Amati. Approximately 250 violins, 4 violas, and 14 violoncellos by him are thought to exist.
A fine Italian violin labelled
"Andreas Guarnerius fecit Cremone sub titulo Sanctae Teresiae 1677" (i.e., under the patronage of Saint Theresa). T
he two-piece back of medium curl, the ribs of smaller figure, the table of medium grain, the varnish of a golden brown color, the length is 23 inches. Comes in the beautiful original wood double case.
There is some faint writing on the exterior bottom of the wood case, which I can not make out. Please see pictures.
