    Description

    Thanks for looking.
ANCIENT, VINTAGE, OLD ENGLISH, BRITISH VIOLIN BY AE SHILLING 1891, Magnificent.
This is an authentic old British violin made by an author not cataloged in any violin maker's dictionary as far as my research concluded. This violin came as is with the back part detached from the body and I re-glued it with a light hide glue to be easy to revert.
The violin has a pre-strad construction style which is not so easy to assemble.
There are several repaired cracks in the front and you can see both sides internal and external but they are stable, with nothing moving.
The top spruce is thin and it makes the violin very delicate and easy to crack if not handled with care, It's not an instrument for beginners but for professionals or collectors.
Has an amazing accented aching I've never seen in another instrument, in the front and the back.
Another particularity to mention is that there is no purifying on both sides nor a saddle piece that seems to be built-in internally, there is also a poor cut nut but is working accordantly.
The ribs all around are in perfect condition as well as the back plate that is cut in a beautiful one-piece diagonal pattern, however, you can see marks of old black hide glue around the lower areas.
There is a 3/4 of an inch crack also repaired on old times in the back plate upper right side.
The F-holes are very wide in the center and very narrow at the top and bottom holes, extremely delicate.
The neck is in good condition and carries a wedge under the fingerboard to lift it it's also a feature introduced later on this violin by a luthier in the past, I suggest this wedge be removed because it claims a taller bridge with unnecessary wood, about 5mm higher than a standard straw bridge.
If you are a collector it is a beautiful piece of art from the late 19 century, if you are a professional player it will require attention from a professional luthier. I just brought the violin to playable condition to know how it sounds, this is not the ideal setup for this violin.
All the parts, end pin, tailpiece, fingerboard, and pegs are original as I received it.
Let's talk about the peg-box, it is in perfect condition without any cracks or bushing I can see, the pegs still hold the string as it is supposed to.
I was forgetting about the varnish, very important; It seems the violin has been re-touched the entire top with a shiny but thin coat of varnish, the same varnish is visible in the scrowbox however is less intense in the ribs and almost nothing is the back. All I did was polish it.
Am I forgetting something? Maybe. Oh! Yes, the most important part, The Sound. The way this violin is today and its body characters it sounds very loud, amazing projection, enormous lowers, reasonable balanced middies frequencies and the E string sings like a bird. A new setup by a skilled luthier will surprise you with the sound quality you can achieve.
    Ops. About the author.
There is no paper label on this violin but is written in feather pen and pencil internally all around,
    a few
things I cannot understand that seem to be an address or a town name. Any all, the top and back you can see a signature like AE Shilling, MFS March 19, 1891, look at the pictures of the opened violin to see details.
PLEASE INSPECT ALL THE PICTURES CAREFULLY AND FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS.
THE FINE PRINTS: We pack the bridge under the tailpiece to protect a rare violin from cracking the top plate in case of an impact during shipment. This could cause the sound post to fall inside, It Is the buyer's duty to re-set the sound post in rare cases it happens. The violin will have no sound if there is no sound post or if the sound post is not properly installed. See videos on YouTube if you don't know how, it's not rocket science. ANY MANIPULATION OF THIS VIOLIN REQUIRES ATTENTION AND SMOOTH TOUCH, IT CAN CRACK EASILY.
Low starting price for this museum's beauty, I will carefully analyze every offer, no business outside eBay,
