    SERVICING INFORMATION
HOOD LOCK: Hinged at front. To open, pull handle marked "HOOD RELEASE" under the instrument panel at the left of the
steering column. This releases the hood latch to the safety catch position. Pressing the catch, located under the left center
edge of the hood, releases the hood latch from its safety position and the hood can be opened. The hood will close and lock
under firm pressure at either rear corner.
BATTERY LOCATION: Right side of engine, under hood. Size - 12 volts, Monterey, 66 plates, 55 ampere hours. Montclair,
Park Lane; 78 plates, 65 ampere hours. Optional. Heavy Duty- 102 plates, 72 ampere hours. Negative terminal grounded.
COOLING SYSTEM: Three phase circulation system of coolant is standard on 383 and 430 engines. When water is cold, it is
circulated through the cylinder heads and intake manifold. When water reaches 140°F., two thermostates open to allow circula-
tion of water through the cylinder heads, intake manifold and blocks. When water reaches 180°F., a single thermostat opens
to allow the water from the engine to circulate through the radiator.
RADIA TOR DRAIN: Drain cock, right side of radiator at rear of lower tank.
RADIA TOR CAP: Pressure cooling employed with valve in radlator cap set at 12 to 15 pounds. The cap must always be
turned down tightly to maintain pressure in the system. CAUTION - Turn cap counterclockwise to stop before removing to
allow any press ure in system, to be relieved through overflow pipe. Fill to 1* below bottom of filler neck.
GAS TANK FILLER: Except Station Wagons - Covered, under hinged license plate bracket in center of lower body back
panel. Bracket is hinged at bottom. Station Wagons - Cop in left rear of body.
The information contained in this Mobilubrication Bulletin is based on latest advice
received direct from the factories. As in previous years, changes in design may be
made in the manufacturer's later production.

To facilitate uniformly satisfactory Mobilubrication, a single mileage has been adopted for similar units operating u
he same conditions on all cars. The recommended frequencies shown are 1000, 5000, 10.000, 15,000 and 20,000 miles.
These frequencies may sometimes vary from those shown in instruction books of various car manufacturers.

    LUBRICATION SERVICE INFORMATION
Figures and numerals printed in italies and enclosed in parenthesis, as,
(D-1), refer to illustrations and descriptions appearing on the Mobilubri-
cation Disc Chart which are applicable to 1960 construction.
TRANSMISSION, CONVENTIONAL (D-1) - Check lubricant level every 1000 miles. Add lubricant as required. Drain and re-
fill e very 10,000 miles or seasonally. Never steam clean or use kerosine or solvents to flush housing.
Filler Opening and Level Gauge: One plug in right side of housing.
Drain: One plug at bottom of housing.
MERC-O-MATIC DRIVE (D-5): Check fluid level every 1000 miles. To make this check, apply toe set parking brake tightly,
move selector lever to "N' position and idle engine for 4 minutes. Move selector lever to all positions, ending in the "P"
position. Clean dirt from around dipstick, at the right side of engine, over manifold, reached from under the hood. Remove
dipstick. Fluid should be at FULL mark on dipstick.
Drain and refill the housing every 25,000 miles.
See Mobilubrication Bulletin "Correct Lubrication of Automatic and semi-Automatic Transmissions" for complete
    and approved instructions.
REAR AXLE (HYPOID GEARS) (D-6): Check lubricant level every 1000 miles. Add lubricant an required. Drain and refill
e very 10,000 miles or seasonally.
Filler Opening and Level Gauge: Plug at left in carrier housing.
Drain: No drain plug, use suction gun.
POWER STEERING (K-3): Linkage type standard on Park Lane, optional on others. Reservoir at front of engine on left.
Check le vel of fluid in reservoir every 1000 miles. Before checking, clean area around top of dipstick thoroughly to avoid
entrance of dirt. To check fluid level, stop engine and remove reser voir cover. Fluid should be at the "FULL" mark. Use
Mobilfluid 200 to maintain fluid at this level.
OIL FILTER (K-1) - Full flow, screw on type. Replace filter every 5000 miles. Tighten by hand only.
FRONT WHEEL STOPS: Apply Mobilgrease No. 5 to stop on each side every 1000 miles.
AIR CLEANER (K-2): Dry element type. Remove air cleaner cover. Remove filter element and tap lightly to remove dust
and dirt. The filter element may also be cleaned with compressed air, using care that the filtering fibre is not ruptured by the
air stream. Direct the air stream against the element in a direction opposite that of the intake air flow. Do not use cleaning
solvents and be sure the compressed air is clean and dry. Under normal driving conditions, clean element every 1000 miles
and replace it every six months or 10,000 miles. In dusty areas, the element should be cleaned e very day or oftener.
MANIFOLD HEAT CONTROL: Place a few drops of graphited kerosine on each end of shaft every 1000 miles to keep shaft
free. If shaft becomes frozen, free it by tapping each end of the shaft lightly with a hammer.
CRANKCASE VENTILATOR AIR CLEANER: Clean mesh in oil filler cap with Sovasol No. 5 every 1000 miles. Replace
crankcase ventilator screen, if so equipped.
DISTRIBUTOR (E-1): – Grease cam sparingly with Mobilgrease No. 5 for MP every 5000 miles.
TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH AND BRAKE LINKAGE – Apply Mobiloil Arctic to linkage points and pivot points every 1000 miles.
POWER BRAKES: Standard on Park Lane. Optional on others. Hydraulic brake reservoir at end of vacuum power unit. Re-
move air cleaner every 10,000 miles and clean in Sovasol No. 5.
POWER ADJUSTABLE SEAT: Optional. Apply Mobilgrease No. 2 sparingly to jack shaft every 10,000 miles.
CONVERTIBLE TOP POWER UNIT: Check level of fluid in reservoir, under rear seat, every 5,000 miles. Remove filler plug
in reservoir and maintain le vel at edge of filler plug hole with Mobil Hydraulic Brake Fluid.
    AIR CONDITIONING: Optional.
