Until you see the 1949 Mercury, examine it in detail, ride in it and drive it, you certainly won't realize what a step-up this car has taken. It’s a bigger, heavier, more distinguished car. In the way it handles, responds, and hugs the road it has set a new standard of performance.
Stepped up in comfort. This new Mercury’s "Lullaby Ride" marks a sensational advance in soft-gliding, vibrationless motion. For stability and quietness, there’s a super-rigid frame. The new 110-horsepower, V-type, 8-cylinder engine rests in this frame on only three rubber-cushioned mountings. Seats are moved forward between front and rear wheels. Independently suspended front wheels have alloy-steel coil springs with aeroplane type shock absorbers. Extra-long rear leaf springs are mounted parallel to
the frame. The car rides on big, low-pressure tires.
Stepped up in luxury. In size and interior luxury the 1949 Mercury steps far ahead. Rear seat is a full five feet wide. The almost unbroken sweep of safety glass allows a wide-open view in all directions. Choice of three beautiful upholstery fabrics.
