Description
This is an interesting, billon or low-purity silver,
"Fuang"
or
"1/8 Tical"
from the
"Kingdom of Cambodia"
. These little silver, uniface coins of Cambodia were struck in the Khmer Chhankitek Calendar year of 1208 or 1847, during the reign of Ang Duong. He was the King of Cambodia from 1840 until 1860.
This coin was struck just after the end of the 1841 to 1845
"Siamese-Vietnamese War"
fought over who would rule Cambodia. In 1847, this year, Ang Duong sent emissaries to pay tribute to both powers but he also sought aid from the British and French, trying to maintain Cambodia's independence. Under his successor, Norodom, the French established its
"Protectorate"
and eventually
"French Indo-China"
.

The Coin:
A coin that saw some hands in its day and earned the normal marks and dirt doing so. I think it may have been bent and flattened at some time but the bird is still there. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
