    dated September 26, 1778.
    Features super vignette the All-Seeing Eye of Providence shining on 13 stars. Motto: CONFEDERATION around.
    The reverse shows a woodcut of carrot leaves (an anti-counterfeiting device),
    Forty DOLLARS
    at the top, and
    "Printed by Hall and Sellers. 1778."
    at
    bottom.
    Serial # 292201.
    Signed by Continental officials John Read and James Dundas.
    "The UNITED STATES" along top and bottom borders. "Continental Currency" along left and right borders.
    It reads:
